planting trees for the future of our land
hope the carabaos won't step on the newly planted trees
The Philippines is suffering from the widespread loss of ecosystem services, including biodiversity maintenance, carbon sequestration, watershed protection, and local communities’ ability to harvest timber and non-timber forest products.
The dominant approach to reforestation in the Philippines focuses on the planting of a handful of exotic timber species, like Gmelina, Mangium, and Mahogany, but has limited environmental and social benefits.
RAINFORESTATION aims to begin restoring the Philippine forests by using native tree species such as narra, acacia, “taluto” and the likes in order to bring back the natural vegetation.
The DENR-Province of Camarines Sur spearheaded a tree-planting activity in connection with the province’s Rainforestation Project last August 19, 2010 at Brgy. San Vicente Gorong-Gorong, in cooperation with LGU-Nabua, assisted by Punong Brgy. Diosdado Docot & Council.
The residents of the barangay participated in planting 2,000 trees. The said activity aims to lessen the instances of “natural disasters”, including flash floods, water shortages, and landslides.
Here’s hoping for a flood, erosion, and disaster free future.
